Happy New Year! In 2018, I focused on developing a strong stage presence and building a repertoire of diverse acts. Another goal was to have enough gigs to be in a show almost every week, and I achieved that goal.
For 2019, I have a bigger goal in mind. I’d like to submit a strong application to the 2020 Burlesque Hall Of Fame Miss Exotic World Competition. That application is due December 2019 which gives me all year to get ready. I have a lot of work to do to be able to stand a chance of being selected, but it’s not unsurmountable. After all, I’m surrounded by some of the top talent in the world from which to learn and be inspired.
I know I won’t be able to reach my goal by re-treading the same paths I took last year. I won’t improve by doing the same acts for the same people. I was lulled into complacency by steady gigs and audience praise in 2018, but I need to start doing new things in 2019 to get to where I long to be.
Therefore, my resolution is to do more work off stage than on in 2019, with a focus on developing higher quality performances. I will be improving my dance form, becoming a better seamstress so I can make more elaborate costumes, hosting as many shows as possible, creating my first violin burlesque act, and getting to as many shows as I can as an audience member.
I was a pretty good performer in 2018, but my goal for 2019 is to become one of the best in this city. Also, my other resolution is to stop eating 7- Eleven taquitos.
